“We went through most of our archive and ended up resting on one of our latest prints for its beautiful, hand drawn imagery. We then finished the edges with white material and lined the inside of the elephant’s head in gold”
Kit Miles and Vitra teamed up to create a one-off custom decorated elephant for the charity Teddy’s Wish, part of the Lullaby Trust, in support of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), neonatal death and stillbirth, and support for grieving families.
This September, our first collaborative charity project, ‘A Child’s Dream’, will be presented at designjunction 2015 in partnership with Vitra. Twenty-two leading names and practices from the worlds of design, fashion, architecture and graphics have joined alongside us in uniquely customising an iconic Eames Elephant by Vitra, to be displayed at designjunction 2015 and later put to auction to raise funds for Teddy’s Wish.
Our elephant has been covered in one of our latest designs for 2015 and will be presented within Victoria House at designjunction 2015 in an installation curated by Anthony Dickens, before being put to a live auction following the show. All funds will go directly to Teddy’s Wish.
We began by looking at the overall form and thought about how a design could take advantage of the planes, curves and lines which make up the Eames Elephant seat. In effect we squashed the form in order to apply the surface pattern.
