LGBTQ+ History Month

An open letter form our Creative Director

Gay history month is a time of year when the KITMILES team and I take the time to reflect upon the resilience of the LGBTQ+ community, their courage and their creativity.

There are and have always been LGBTQ+ people. Their presence is undeniable and more visible nowadays as openness and acceptance are spread somewhat more equally throughout the world.

But it hasn’t always been that way. Even recently, many people grew up under the now-repealed Section 28 which was a legislative designation across Britain that prohibited the “promotion of homosexuality” by local authorities. Let us not forget these past struggles since they inspire us to face those in the present.

I stand by the thoughts of Stonewall when they say “It’s time to for us ask what we want to achieve in the next fifty years. What kind of world do we want to see for LGBTQ+ people in 2072?”. This requires us to go beyond our own lifetime and delve into building a better future for generations to come.

We must all fight for the right to our freedoms.

In business, following a dream isn’t only about having a picture in your mind. It’s about action, the courage to see it through and dedication to a higher purpose.

As designers, we are continually working creatively, which I think allows us a unique opportunity to peer into our shared human history whilst dreaming up possibilities for the future and celebrating culture and stories from all over the world.

Today, we are proud to have created a business which celebrates people who are different. We call them pioneers.

Ideas embolden us to think of possibility, they remind us that the future is the stuff of change, and change itself is the business of the future. This is how we render the brave new world. This is how we fight.
